Cody Johnson makes music “to impact people's lives”

Cody Johnson is opening up about what inspires him.

The “Dirt Cheap” singer spoke to Good Morning America at CMA Fest 2024 in Nashville recently about how his deeply personal music impacts fans.

“To have fans tell you how the music has touched their lives is the reason why I record the music that I record,” he said. “We do have some fun songs, but all the real songs that I put out to radio and put out to the public to really push are all stories to try to impact people’s lives.”

“So when someone comes up to me and says, ‘Hey, this song saved our marriage,’ or ‘This song made me decide not to take my own life,’ or ‘This song made me go back to church’ … that’s what I do it for,” he continued.

“That kind of stuff really takes a hold of me and whenever I’m down, I’m burned out and I’m a little bit tensed up about being on the road, I remember those people and go, ‘Hey, look, I’m getting to do this for them,'” he said.

Cody kicked off the first leg of his 2024 The Leather Tour in January. In April he added 10 extra dates.

“My favorite part about being on the road has always been the stage,” said Cody. “The favorite part has always been, whether I’ve been in a 200-capacity bar or a 75,000-seat stadium, it’s always been that 90 minutes that I get on [the] stage.”

Despite the recent success, Cody told GMA he’s “just getting started.”

“I’ve worked almost 20 years to get to this point and it ain’t over, I can tell you that,” he said.

You can catch Cody on the CMA Fest television special, airing June 28 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Luke Combs' heartfelt 'Fathers & Sons' has arrived

Luke Combs‘ long-awaited album of dad songs, Fathers & Sons, has arrived.

The personal 12-track project is stacked with songs about fatherhood, life and raising a youngin’. While its storytelling highlights the universal father-son relationship, Luke also lets his experience as a touring artist and family man come through, as evidenced on the album opener, “Front Door Famous.”

Elsewhere, “Little Country Boys” paints a picture of father and son bonding together, and the faith-inspired “Plant a Seed” chronicles a dad imparting life lessons to his son.

“True love and the gospel/ Might take a while to blossom/ But you dig down in that garden and you plant ’em anyways/ Just let God be the farmer, he’s got the sun and water/ It’s up to him to let ’em bloom/ And let ’em see the light of day,” Luke sings in the verse of “Plant a Seed.”

“Oh, time ain’t always your friend/ It starts slow and gets faster towards the end/ So fill up your heart with love, pass it on before you go/ And thank the man upstairs that you were there to plant a seed and watch it grow,” he continues in the chorus, highlighting the gift of leaving a legacy behind.

Fathers & Sons is available now wherever you get music.

Luke’s latest single is “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma,” which you can find on Twisters: The Album, out July 19.

Luke Bryan's bringing you clothes from the “Mind of a Country Boy”

Sunday is Father’s Day, and if you’re struggling to find that last-minute gift, Luke Bryan may be able to help.

In addition to his music career, American Idol and his 32 Bridge bar in downtown Nashville, he’s also launched his own Jockey Outdoors Collection

What does that mean exactly? Well, Luke says, first of all, the clothes have to work for him.

“When I’m on stage … if it’s not something that’s comfortable … that means I’ve just walked out there in front of 20,000 people for two hours, not being comfortable,” he says. “So when I’m around the house, nothing’s different.”

“I’m outside a lot,” he continues, “whether it’s fishing or hunting or golfing or throwing the football with my children. … It’s got to be something that I want to wear on a daily basis. If it doesn’t work for me, then it’s not gonna work for the people out there using it in their daily life.”

For Luke, it’s a hands-on collaboration.

“Recently I called the CEO,” he recalls. “I was like, ‘Hey man, I think we’re missing out on a hoodie market.’ And two or three days later, they had all these mock-up hoodie designs.”

“What’s funny is when they took that new hoodie to like a trade show or whatever, it was one of the most popular items,” he grins.

One of Luke’s favorites? A shirt designed specifically for fishing.

“You’ve got zippers. I didn’t like Velcro,” he says, pointing to the shirt he’s wearing. “A place to hang your sunglasses … air vents in the back. You can clean your sunglasses on the bottom.”

“And, you know, I really feel like it’s slimming. Is it slimming?” he laughs.

Luke’s new track, “Mind of a Country Boy,” is out now.

U.S. Pres. Biden and Ukrainian Pres. Zelenskyy sign 10-year bilateral security agreement

President Joe Biden and leaders of the Group of Seven nations reached a deal Thursday to give Ukraine a $50 billion loan this year backed by frozen Russian assets, sustaining their commitment in opposition of Russia’s invasion. The loan would be funded by interest earned on profits from Russia’s frozen assets, largely held in Europe and will support military aid, humanitarian support and reconstruction costs.

Biden and the leaders of Italy, Canada, Germany, France, Canada and the United Kingdom are in Italy for a series of G7 meetings this week. The move comes after Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a separate bilateral security agreement, which solidifies U.S. support to Ukraine for the next decade, including military training, intelligence sharing and weapons assistance.

Mr. Biden and Zelenskyy held a joint press conference in Italy on Thursday, in which Biden called all the actions to bolster Ukraine a message to Russian leader Vladimir Putin: “he cannot wait us out, he cannot divide us. We’re going to stand with Ukraine. We’ve taken three major steps at the G7 that collectively show Putin he cannot wait us out, and we’ll be with Ukraine until they prevail in this war. First is the bilateral security agreement just signed. Second, historic agreement to provide $50 billion in value from Russian sovereign assets to Ukraine. And third, an agreement to ensure our sanctions efforts disrupt third countries that are supplying Russia’s war efforts.” (per NBC News).  Zelenskyy thanked Mr. Biden and Congress for their aid, and offered “thanks to every American heart that does not betray freedom and supports us.”

The Treasury and Commerce departments previously announced a new round of sanctions targeting Russia and its “war machine,” aimed at slowing Russia’s military growth as it continues its war in Ukraine. The sanctions will make it harder for Russia to import supplies to build military equipment, though they will still allow food and goods to get into Russia outside those sectors.  The Biden administration is now allowing Ukraine to use U.S. weapons across the border into Russia near the city of Kharkiv, a policy change that the White House says came with Russia opening a new front in its war.  National security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters earlier this week: “Our position here we believe is straightforward and common sensical. Russians are launching attacks from one side of the border directly on to the other side of the border. And Ukraine ought to be able to fire back across that border.”

Supreme Court unanimously rejects bid to restrict access to abortion pill mifepristone

The Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously rejected a bid to restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone, with the commonly used drug to remain widely available. Per CNN, medication abortion accounts for nearly two-thirds of all US abortions, according to some estimates. The FDA approved mifepristone in 2000 as part of a two-drug regimen to end a pregnancy and it has been shown to be safe and effective. The pill is also often prescribed for miscarriage treatment.

The high court ruled that the plaintiffs, the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, lacked standing to challenge the Food and Drug Administration’s mifepristone approval actions, adding that they failed to prove they suffered any harm from the FDA’s mifepristone policies and so had no right to sue in federal court to block access to the drug. The Supreme Court opinion said: “given the broad and comprehensive conscience protections guaranteed by federal law, the plaintiffs have not shown-and cannot show-that FDA’s actions will cause them to suffer any conscience injury.”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in the court’s opinion: “Here, the plaintiff doctors and medical associations are unregulated parties who seek to challenge FDA’s regulation of others. Specifically, FDA’s regulations apply to doctors prescribing mifepristone and to pregnant women taking mifepristone. But the plaintiff doctors and medical associations do not prescribe or use mifepristone. And FDA has not required the plaintiffs to do anything or to refrain from doing anything.”  Kavanaugh added that the plaintiffs’ claim they were seeking to make mifepristone harder for people to because “they are pro-life, oppose elective abortion, and have sincere legal, moral, ideological, and policy objections to mifepristone being prescribed and used by others” isn’t enough for legal standing to sue in federal court.

The court concluded that, “the plaintiffs have failed to demonstrate that FDA’s relaxed regulatory requirements likely would cause them to suffer an injury in fact. For that reason, the federal courts are the wrong forum for addressing the plaintiffs’ concerns about FDA’s actions.”

President Joe Biden said in a statement that while the ruling means the pill can remain easily accessible, “the fight for reproductive freedom continues … it does not change the fact that the right for a woman to get the treatment she needs is imperiled if not impossible in many states.”

Megan Thee Stallion reveals cover art for new album “Megan” dropping June 28

Megan Thee Stallion officially announced her third studio album, Megan, along with the cover art and and release date, June 28. Megan will mark Megan Thee Stallion’s first album since Traumazine, released in August 2022.

The rapper dropped the news on social media, writing: “SURPRISE HOTTIESSSS!!!! My New Album ‘MEGAN’ will be coming out JUNE 28 PRE-SAVE NOW!’” She also posted the album’s cover art which depicts a naked Megan inside a cocoon and hanging upside with a giant “M” embossed over the artwork. Megan will be releasing the album through her own ‘Hot Girl’ imprint in partnership with Warner Music Group, allowing the 29-year-old to own her master recordings and have complete creative control while using WMG’s distribution and marketing infrastructure.

Megan has previously released a trio of snake-themed tracks from the album, including “Cobra,”“Hiss” and “BOA.” In a recent interview with L’Officiel, she explained: “We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in Western culture. Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality. I’m not someone who says, ‘Oh my God, sunshine and happiness.’ I like darker things. I like things that are a little scary. I like unique things. I chose the snake because… it’s a kind of anti-hero. We don’t just stop at the snake. It’s what everyone sees right now. Renewal, rebirth — that’s the whole concept of the album.”

Billie Eilish shares videos for her tracks ‘Lunch’ and ‘Chihiro’

Billie Eilish has shared the new, self-directed music video for the fan-favorite track “Chihiro,” the latest song off her recently-released LP, Hit Me Hard and Soft.  The album is Eilish’s third, and the follow-up to 2021’s Happier Than Ever.

In the clip for Chihiro, Eilish escapes an empty building and sprints outside, where she gets in a hands-on tussle with another person in a field, as she runs away from (and alongside) her love interest, Nat Wolff. Eilish calls the video for Chihiro “one of [her] favorite videos [she’s] ever made & truly one of the greatest days of my life. nat love you so much thank you for being a part of this.”

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Eilish explained how Chihiro draws inspiration from the main character in Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘Spirited Away’ – “It’s kind of from her point of view, mixed with mine. The visuals in that movie are some of the best ever — all that Studio Ghibli sh*t is unbelievable. There’s all those visuals of the train in the water after the flood, and it literally looks like an ocean with a train track. I had just watched Spirited Away and Finneas had made that beat. I love that movie. I’ve seen it so many times.”

Since Hit Me Hard and Soft dropped last month, Eilish has also shared a music video for “Lunch,” an anthem exploring themes of queerness and personal identity. Eilish debuted “Lunch” during her surprise performance at Coachella, where she joined headliner Lana Del Rey onstage; in the self-directed visual, Eilish performs directly into a vintage camcorder wearing a ‘90s-inspired outfit: a red cap worn sideways, a yellow supreme jersey layered over a long-sleeve white tee, fuzzy blue wristbands, plaid shorts and Jordans.

Eilish will also embark on the Hit Me Soft and Hard: The Tour starting in September 2024; the North American leg of the tour runs through to the end of December 2024, and will continue in Australia starting February 2025 ahead of her European, UK, and Ireland arena dates from April until late July.

Check out the videos for “Lunch” (here) and ‘Chihiro’ (here).
