Blake Shelton's got 'Texas' + a show with Yellowstone's Taylor Sheridan on his mind

Things are about to get exciting for Blake Shelton fans.

The “Austin” singer has announced he’s releasing a new song, “Texas,” on Friday. It’ll be his first release with BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville and Wheelhouse Records since signing a new record deal with them in September.

And that’s not all.

It was announced Wednesday that Blake will join Taylor Sheridan as executive producer for an upcoming singing competition show, slated to air on CBS.

Though not much is known about the show yet, a press release says that the docu-follow format, currently titled The Road, will follow an as-yet-unannounced headlining superstar on the search for the next big artist.

“Singers will join the headliner on tour, performing as opening acts in venues across the country. They will compete to win over local fanbases to secure a spot in the next city and remain on the tour,” the release says.

Blake says in a statement, “I'm a big fan of Taylor's incredible work, and I'm excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee [Metzger], on THE ROAD. I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it's like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I'm looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”

“There is a revolution taking place in country music,” says Taylor. “Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture.”

“No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally,” the Yellowstone creator adds. “Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”

The Road will premiere in fall 2025.

Spirit Airlines flight from Florida hit by gunfire while attempting to land in Haiti

The Federal Aviation Administration said that a Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was hit by gunfire while trying to land in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, on Monday and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic. The FAA said in a statement that two other flights bound for Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport were diverted as a precaution.

Spirit Airlines Flight 951 took off from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, just north of Miami, on Monday morning, bound for Port-au-Prince. According to data on FlightRadar24, the plane came within 550 feet of the runway before aborting its landing; the flight flew over parts of Haiti and circled around Port-au-Prince before diverting to Cibao International Airport in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

Spirit Airlines said in a statement Monday that the plane “diverted and landed safely in Santiago, Dominican Republic,” adding that none of the 48 passengers reported injuries, and one flight attendant onboard the plane reported unspecified “minor injuries” and was undergoing medical evaluation. The airline statement continued to say that after the plane arrived in the Dominican Republic, “an inspection revealed evidence of damage to the aircraft consistent with gunfire.”  The plane was taken out of service and a different aircraft was secured to return the passengers and crew to Fort Lauderdale.

The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince said in a security alert Monday it was aware of “gang-led efforts” to block travel to and from the capital that may include “armed violence, and disruptions to roads, ports, and airports. The security situation in Haiti is unpredictable and dangerous. Travel within Haiti is conducted at your own risk. The U.S. government cannot guarantee your safety traveling to airports, borders, or during any onward travel. You should consider your personal security situation before traveling anywhere in Haiti.”

Spirit said its service at Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien in northern Haiti was suspended “pending further evaluation.”  Additionally, American Airlines said it was suspending flights between Miami and Port-au-Prince through Thursday with the airline stating “we will continue to monitor the situation with safety and security top of mind and will adjust our operation as needed,” while JetBlue canceled its flights to and from Haiti through Thursday as well, issuing a similar statement: “We will continue to monitor the situation to determine if additional cancellations may be required.”

Trump selects Rep. Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations

President-elect Donald Trump has selected House Republican Conference chair Rep. Elise Stefanik, of New York to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik is Trump’s first Cabinet pick for his second term in the White House.

Trump said in a statement: “I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter.”

Stefanik told the New York Post that she was “truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations,” adding that when speaking with Trump, she “shared how deeply humbled I am to accept his nomination and that I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the United States Senate.”

Stefanik, 40, is a Republican congresswoman from New York’s 21st District (which covers upstate NY), and was elected last week to her sixth term in the House. She joined House leadership in May 2021, when she was elected as chair of the House Republican Conference, replacing former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy) in the role. Stefanik has served in the House since 2015; at the time of her election in 2014, she was the youngest woman to ever win a seat in Congress.

Stefanik has also been a staunch defender of Israel in its response to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks and has been outspoken over the last year about antisemitism on college campuses. Stefanik reiterated her call for the defunding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East before last week’s election, alleging that it has been infiltrated by Hamas.

Chayce Beckham recalls fighting to get 'one of my favorite songs' on debut album

If you’ve heard Chayce Beckham‘s Bad For Me, you know how deeply personal and autobiographical it is.

Led by its lead single and Chayce’s first #1 hit, “23,” the 13-track album includes songs that chronicle Chayce’s life journey and tunes that he’s very passionate about. In fact, he recalls fighting for one of those tunes to make the final track list.

‘If I Had a Week’ [is] one of my favorite songs that I’ve written, and I shared it on Instagram years ago when I wrote it. It’s just been one of those songs where I was like, ‘Let’s record this one, let’s record this one,'” Chayce tells ABC Audio.

“I kind of fought for it to get it, you know?” he says of the slow-tempo reflective ode. “I think we went over budget or something. Because I was like, ‘I’m doing this song, we’re putting it on there,’ and it’s one of my favorites. It’s real simple.”

Chayce also has more favorites off his first project, including a song he penned at his very first songwriting session in Nashville.

‘Mama’ is one of my favorites. It’s a special song to me. And I’ve got another one on there called ‘Addicted and Clean.‘ That was one of the first songs I wrote when I moved to Nashville,” the California native recalls.

“It was from my first writing session, actually, that I ever did co-write, and we wrote this song,” Chayce shares. “[It] just goes to show how long it can take for a song to finally get to the phase of being recorded and put out onto an album.”

Chayce’s latest single, “Everything I Need,” is currently making its way up the country charts.

Here’s the Bad For Me track list:
“Devil I've Been”
“Addicted and Clean”
“Waylon In 75”
“Bad for Me”
“Drink You Off My Mind”
“Everything I Need”
“Whiskey Country”
“Glitter”
“Smokin’ Weed and Drinkin’ Whiskey”
“Something Worth Holding On To”
“Mama”
“If I Had a Week”
“23”
