Just a small-town kid: Why Bailey Zimmerman's music is connecting

If there’s one thing Bailey Zimmerman has in common with his fans, it’s the small-town upbringing they share.

“I feel like that's why, you know, people kind of, they tell me, ‘Man, we love your song cause it's relatable.’ And it's like, well, because I was a small-town kid and grew up just like everybody else,” Bailey shares in a press interview.

In fact, Bailey’s not surprised his music connects so much. After all, he is writing from experience.

“It makes so much sense when everybody's like, ‘Dude, this feels like you wrote it for me.’ And I'm like, ‘Well, because I basically am you,'” the Louisville, Illinois, native says.

“I'm just a normal small-town kid just like everybody else, you know? Trying to write songs to get my feelings out,” Bailey adds. “It's really crazy. It's cool. All of this is like a dream come true.”

Bailey’s currently approaching the top 20 of the country charts with his latest single, “Holy Smokes.”

Police launch homicide investigation after 3 women are found dead in home in Columbus, Ohio

Per AP News, authorities in Ohio are launching a homicide investigation after three women were found dead inside a Columbus, Ohio, home on Saturday.

According to Sgt. James Fuqua, public information officer for Columbus Police. officers were called to a home on the city’s south side just before 4 p.m. Saturday for what a 911 caller fho found their friends in medical distress inside a home. Police found three women who were pronounced dead at the scene. Fuqua said the killings were considered homicides, but he did not have further details, including what led up to the killings: “We are working through the manner of death to determine what actually happened before we release any of that information. Unfortunately, this is a very complex scene with the amount of victims that we have. It’s going to take a little bit longer to make sure that we’re very careful in going through the scene meticulously so we do not miss any key piece of evidence.”

Fuqua added that no suspects had been taken into custody, and said investigators were interviewing witnesses and looking for video evidence. No drugs were found at the scene and officials are considering it an active homicide investigation and are working to confirm the manner of death.

In an update released on Sunday, CBS affiliate WBNS-TV reported that police said that all three women had been shot and killed — the identities of the women have not yet been released. Sgt. Fuqua said: “this time of year — anytime of the year it’s unfortunate when someone loses their life, but particularly this time of the year during the holidays it’s going to be very difficult for these victims’ families to come to the grips that these family members will no longer be in their lives.”

Old Dominion announces seven-show Ryman residency

Old Dominion has announced its ‘7 For 7’ Ryman Residency, taking place Feb. 3 through Feb. 6 at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.

The residency follows a stripped-down, acoustic format, with each show set to benefit one of the seven charities that Old Dominion’s passionate about: MusiCares, Save The Music, Backline Care, the Opry Trust Fund, CMA Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Ramsey Foundation.

Frontman Matthew Ramsey shared: “When you’re looking at the Oak Ridge Boys, who are a lot like Mount Rushmore, you realize what an incredible family you’re a part of. To have won this award, which they’ve won, Alabama’s won, the Chicks won, so many great bands have won, let alone seven times in a row, that’s a blessing. At this point, the best way to celebrate something like this – for us – is to play, to give ourselves and the fans a way to come together in these songs and to help raise resources for some great charities that are out there spreading goodness around trying to help people. But rather than doing a big show, we wanted to give ourselves the permission to strip it all the way back, create songwriter-type shows that aren’t about production, but the songs; to take even more requests and be spontaneous, to create once in a lifetime experiences every single show,” says Matthew. “Where better to do that than at the Ryman?”

Two shows a day will be performed on Feb. 3-5; with the seventh show taking place on Feb. 6. Tickets are on sale at ryman.com.
