Reba's ready to play 'Nashville's first rodeo'

Nashville’s known more for musical cowboys than rodeo cowboys, but that could all begin to change this spring, with what’s being billed as “Nashville’s first rodeo.”

The Music City Rodeo will take over Bridgestone Arena for three nights starting May 29. The festivities begin with a PRCA Prorodeo each night, followed by a superstar concert. Reba McEntire kicks things off the first night, with Jelly Roll following May 30 and Tim McGraw closing things out May 31.

Of course, Reba has plenty of rodeo cred, having come from a rodeo family before realizing she was getting far more attention for singing the national anthem than for her barrel racing.

Presales for the event start Wednesday, March 3. You can find out more at MusicCityRodeo.com.

Dolly Parton and Carl Dean's best quotes about their decadeslong love story

Dolly Parton and Carl Dean‘s love story is one for the ages.

The pair were married for nearly six decades, tying the knot in 1966. In a statement Monday, Parton announced that Dean died March 3 at the age of 82.

Throughout the years, Dolly has often sung the praises of her husband and their relationship.

She opened up about how she met Dean outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat the day she moved to Nashville at 18 while speaking to Robin Roberts in 2019.

“There was a laundromat down from my little apartment where I was gonna be staying. So, the very day I go down to the laundromat, this good-looking man just drives by and he says something like, ‘Well, you’re gonna get sunburned out here.’ And I said something stupid like, ‘Well, what’s it to you?’ We start talking and, two years later, we married and we’re still married, and that was that.”

Though he stayed out of the spotlight, Carl shared his first impression of Dolly in a rare statement in 2016 – the year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and renewed their vows.

“My first thought was, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl.’ My second thought was, ‘Lord, she’s good lookin’,'” he told Entertainment Tonight. “And that was the day my life began. I wouldn’t trade the last 50 years for nothing on this earth.”

Dolly shared how the two kept their decadeslong marriage alive in a People interview in 2020.

“We still have our little times, like in the springtime when the first yellow daffodils come out. Even if there’s still some snow around it, my husband always brings me a bouquet. And he’ll usually write me a little poem,” she said. “Which to me, that’s priceless. That’s like a date in itself.”

Jelly Roll wants a 'lifelong' contract on 'American Idol'

Jelly Roll is thrilled that he’ll be American Idol‘s first “artist-in-residence” when the show returns for its new season March 9 on ABC. But if he has his way, he’ll be the first – and the last.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Jelly said, “What I want to do is get a permanent artist-in-residency there. That's my dream right now – is that it never could be anybody but me, and American Idol signs a lifelong contract for Jelly Roll to be the mentor artist-in-residence.”

Jelly, an American Idol fanatic, also shares that he got the newly created position by “just fanning my way into the job … proving how much I know and love about American Idol.”

The concept of “paying it forward” is what excites Jelly the most about his role. “Music changed my life,” he told ET. “Before I wrote a song … music changed my life. These kids are on the verge of having their life changed.”

He admits, “Every time I leave there, I feel wrong that, like, they let me do that, you know what I mean? Like, they let me do that on TV. It’s crazy.”

He also shares that judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are “the funniest … they’re a hoot and a half,” while new judge and former Idol champ Carrie Underwood is “killin’ it.”

Jordan Davis & Jelly Roll have dueling number ones

This week, Jordan Davis locks in the eighth #1 of his career, as “I Ain’t Sayin'” tops the Mediabase chart.

“I never would have dreamed of 8 number 1 singles, but y’all made it happen… I’m forever grateful,” the Louisiana native says in an industry ad accompanied by a special video message.

In an interesting twist, that means Jordan keeps Jelly Roll at #2 for the sixth week in a row with “Liar.” That’s only happened one other time for an artist on the country chart, when Jo Dee Messina spent six weeks at #2 in 1999 with her cover of the Dottie West classic, “Lesson in Leavin’.”

Lest you feel too sorry for Jelly Roll, he happens to be getting his due on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, where “Liar” is spending its third week at #1.

Highland Park parade shooting suspect Robert Crimo III changes plea to guilty

The Highland Park, Illinois parade shooting suspect has changed his plea to guilty on the first day of the trial (per Chicago ABC affiliate WLS). The trial was expected to last three to five weeks, and see nearly all shooting survivors take the stand.

Shooting suspect Robert E. “Bobby” Crimo III, 24, pleaded guilty at the start of the trial to all 21 counts of first-degree murder (three counts of each person killed) and 48 counts of attempted murder. He is accused of killing seven people and injuring dozens of others in the mass shooting at a 2022 Fourth of July parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park. (from NBC News.). He is now scheduled to be sentenced on April 23; he faces life in prison without parole if convicted.

Crimo was arrested several hours after the Independence Day shooting and confessed to firing more than 80 rounds into the parade crowd from a nearby rooftop.  After leaving the murder weapon from the Highland Park shooting in an alley near the scene, prosecutors said Crimo was armed with a second rifle and 60 rounds of ammunition while in Wisconsin. Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Chris Covelli stated at the time that Crimo “seriously contemplated using the firearm he had in his vehicle to commit another shooting in Madison. Following the attack, Crimo exited the roof, dropped his rifle, and he blended in with the crowd and escaped.” He was dressed as a woman on the day of the attack and wore makeup to hide his facial tattoos to blend in with the crowd, according to prosecutors.

Crimo had originally pleaded not guilty in August 2022 to all criminal charges after he was accused of opening fire from a rooftop during the parade. Crimo was expected to accept a plea deal in June 2024, but later rejected the deal and keep his plea of not guilty.

Those killed in the attack were married couple Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35; 88-year-old Stephen Straus; Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza, 78, Eduardo Uvaldo, 69, Katherine Goldstein, 64 and Jacquelyn Sundheim, 63.

2 killed, several injured after vehicle drives into crowd in Mannheim, Germany

At least two people were killed and several others were seriously injured when a German man drove a vehicle into a crowd of people in the western  city of Mannheim, Germany on Monday, during an annual carnival celebration. Mannheim has a population of 326,000 and is about 52 miles south of Frankfurt.

In statements posted on social media, Mannheim police confirmed an ongoing operation after “a 40-year-old suspect drove a car into a group of people who were in the Planken area of Mannheim city center. Two people were killed and five seriously injured.” Police stated they “were able to arrest the 40-year-old German suspect from Rhineland-Palatinate [about 90 miles from Mannheim]”. They said “at the current stage of the investigation, it is not assumed that there is a political background” to the incident.

The incident came as crowds gathered in cities across Germany for parades to mark the Christian Carnival season, on what Christian Germans mark as Rose Monday, the highlight of their carnival season that takes place on Shrove Monday, before the Lenten period begins on Ash Wednesday.

Video footage from the Planken shopping district area near Paradeplatz Square in the center of Mannheim showed shoppers standing outside an area cordoned off by police tape and strewn with debris. In addition to the two people killed, 10 people were injured, five seriously. Police have not said if the driver under arrest deliberately plowed into the crowd or whether it was accidental.

Scotty McCreery's son, Avery, is already emulating his daddy

Scotty McCreery‘s son, Avery, turned 2 last October, and it sounds like he’s well on his way to following in his dad’s footsteps.

“He’s loving Disney movies,” Scotty tells ABC Audio, “but he’s loving the soundtracks more than anything. Like he just wants to sing them.”

“So like, Lion King is the movie this week, but as soon as it starts, he just waits. Just waits,” he says, going on to imitate how his 2-year-old sings along once the music begins.

Avery’s also fond of giving command performances, each tailored to his audience.

“It’s the best thing ever,” Scotty smiles. “For me, the cool thing is he’s very observant about who likes what songs. So everybody in the family, like our friends, has a song. So Daddy’s song is ‘Cab in a Solo.’ Papa’s song is ‘Sweet Caroline.’ My drummer’s song is ‘Free Fallin’.”

“And he’ll just sing it, like, he’ll sing it back to you. And it makes my heart happy,” he says.

Scotty’s own song “Fall of Summer” continues its climb in country’s top 25.
