Eddie Vedder, Brandi Carlile, Mumford & Sons contribute to new Neil Young tribute album

Eddie Vedder, Fiona Apple, Brandi Carlile, Mumford & Sons, Sharon Van Etten and the Lumineers are among the artists contributing to Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young.

The first volume of Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young will be released April 25 through Cinema Music Group and Killphonic Records; to pre-order, head here.

Vedder performs a live recording of “The Needle and the Damage Done,” while Apple covers the compilation’s title track, and the Doobie Brothers team with Allison Russell for “Comes a Time.”  The first two tracks from the collection are out now: Courtney Barnett’s cover of “Lotta Love”, and Chris Pierce’s rendition of “Southern Man.” Says Barnett, “‘Lotta Love’ is one of my favorite Neil songs and the lyrics feel especially relevant at this moment in history. It’s a real honor to be part of this tribute helping to raise funds for the Bridge School.”

Pierce, who previously opened for Young in concert, added: “time and time again, I’m reminded of the power of Neil Young’s songs. I’m reminded every time I spin one of his albums at home [and] when his songs play on the radio, and this was particularly evident when I recently had the honor of being the opening act for his solo tour.”

All proceeds from the sale of Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young will benefit the Bridge School, which Young and his late wife Pegi founded in the Bay Area for children with severe speech and physical disabilities. A second volume of Heart of Gold will also be announced soon.

Dolly Parton's husband Carl Dean dies at 82

Dolly Parton‘s husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, has died. He was 82.

A note was shared on Parton’s social media about the news on Monday.

“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82,” the statement said. “He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He was survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie.”

A quote from Parton was also included. It read, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years.”

“Thank you for your prayers and sympathy,” she added.

Parton’s note ended with, “The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.”

Parton and Dean had kept their marriage private over the years.

The duo tied the knot in 1966. In their time together, Dean has typically stayed out of the spotlight despite Parton’s long career in the music industry.

However, Parton always spoke about the love she has for him. In 2022, Parton shared the key ingredients to hers and Dean’s long lasting marriage.

“I like it when people say, ‘How did it last so long?’ I say, ‘It’s stay going,'” Parton said. “You know, there’s a lot to be said about that. So, we’re not in each other’s face all the time. He’s not in the business so we have different interests, but yet we have the things we love to do together.”

“So it was meant to be, I think. He was the one I was supposed to have and vice versa,” she added.

'Footprints' bring Ingrid Andress back for another anthem performance

Ingrid Andress is back, after a performance of the national anthem last July led her to go to rehab.

She returned Friday to demonstrate she’s doing well, singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Colorado Avalanche game in her home state. You can check out her appearance on her socials, as the crowd both sings along and cheers for her.

Ingrid’s also just put out her first new music since 2022’s Good Person, a new track called “Footprints.”

“This song means so much to me that I didn't think I'd ever put it out, and now it resonates with me even more than when I wrote it,” she reveals.

“I was the first sibling to venture out on my own and pursue my dreams,” she explains, “and I think it's my role as an older sister to encourage them to do the same. I want them to learn from my mistakes, and to know that you can mess up and still keep moving forward. It doesn't feel great to fail, but it can end up making you stronger.”

So far Ingrid’s topped the country chart twice, with “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking” with Sam Hunt.

“Baby Swindell 2025” the caption reads, adding a heart emoji. The accompanying series of photos shows a visibly pregnant Courtney posing with Cole behind a clothesline strung with onesies, as well as a toddler holding the sonogram, wearing a sweater that says “Big Cousin.”

So far there’s no word on when the couple’s first child is due, save for sometime this year.
