Pres. Trump withdraws nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik for U.N. ambassador

On Thursday, President Donald Trump withdrew his nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Trump cited the slight margin that majority Republicans hold in the House of Representatives for his decision to pull Stefanik from consideration for the U.N. post, with the president saying he’s asked her to remain in Congress.

CBS News, who was first to report that Trump was considering withdrawing Stefanik’s nomination, said that the nomination was in jeopardy as GOP pressure mounted for her to back away from the position.  Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House with 218 seats, while Democrats hold 213 seats, with four vacant seats currently.

Trump wrote on Truth Social:  “As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat. The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations. Therefore, Elise will stay in Congress, rejoin the House Leadership Team, and continue to fight for our amazing American People. Speaker Johnson is thrilled! I look forward to the day when Elise is able to join my Administration in the future. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you Elise!”

The surprise development is a significant blow to Stefanik, a Trump loyalist and rising star in the party. There was little doubt Stefanik would have the votes to be confirmed, and her nomination was advanced by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Jan. 30.

Trump announced on Nov. 11, 2024 that he selected Stefanik, 40, to represent the United States at the UN, praising her as “an incredibly strong, tough and smart America First fighter.” Stefanik, a New York Republican, was elected to Congress in 2014 and rose to House GOP leadership to be the highest-ranking Republican woman in the House.  She served as chair of the House Republican Conference from May 2021 to Jan. 2025, stepping down from the House GOP leadership post after being picked to serve in the administration..

The 'hard' road for a 'hummingbird': Trace Carly Pearce's changes through her music

If you listen to 2017’s Every Little Thing, you’ll hear a very different Carly Pearce than on her new album, hummingbird: no rain, no flowers.

“I was super scattered on my first record,” she says. “I was still feeling like I was not good enough because so many people for years had told me I wasn't good enough. I still had body image issues that I was dealing with, and just kind of was in a tornado of like, ‘Oh my goodness.’ I wasn't in a good relationship, that wasn't serving me well.”

But Carly felt a need to change – one she believes you can see on subsequent albums.

“I feel like I've unpacked a lot of things through the last few years,” she reflects, “and really tried to do some ‘self-working’ and just really get to the core of why some of the things are the way they are, and how can I improve myself.”

“Just really getting to a place of: ‘I am who I am. I like who I am. I don't need somebody else’s approval to tell me that I’m worthy.’ And that was hard,” she adds.

The deluxe version of hummingbird features Carly’s latest hit, “truck on fire.”

Lady Gaga reveals ‘The Mayhem Ball’ world tour

Lady Gaga has officially announced The Mayhem Ball Tour with dates across North America, Europe, and the UK. The tour will be in support of Gaga’s new album, Mayhem, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The Mayhem Ball Tour marks Gaga’s first North American and Europe/UK run since her iconic 2022 Chromatica Ball Tour.

The singer, 38, wrote in a social media post announcing the tour: “I wasn’t planning to tour this year after my shows in Singapore but the incredible response to the new album inspired me to keep things going. It came together super quickly thanks to Arthur Fogel and the amazing team at Live Nation, who planned a global tour in just a few weeks. We chose arenas this time to give me the opportunity to control the details of the show in a way you simply can’t in stadiums—and honestly, I can’t wait. This show is designed to be the kind of theatrical and electrifying experience that brings MAYHEM to life exactly how I envision it. The MAYHEM Ball Tour is officially coming your way. See you soon, monsters.”

The Mayhem Ball world tour kicks-off on July 16th in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena, and will include multiple nights in Seattle, New York, Miami, Toronto, Chicago, London, Stockholm, Milan, Barcelona, Berlin, and more. Gaga shared in a statement: “This is my first arena tour since 2018. There’s something electric about a stadium, and I love every moment of those shows. But with The Mayhem Ball, I wanted to create a different kind of experience—something more intimate—closer, more connected—that lends itself to the live theatrical art I love to create.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning April 3, with fans having until March 30 to sign up to receive a link for presale registration.

Know when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em: Garth wins big in Vegas

The numbers are in on Garth Brooks‘ recently wrapped Vegas residency, and they’re pretty impressive.

For its entire run, from May 2023 until early March 2025, Garth Brooks/Plus ONE was 99% sold out. Over 72 shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, he sold more than 300,000 tickets, raking in more than $130 million.

“I speak on behalf of the band and crew, best gig we have ever had,” Garth reflects. “We were spoiled to death, everyone from…the people at Caesars and Live Nation, the box office to the ushers, security, local crew, stage, lights, sound, backstage, catering…all amazing.”

“I would suggest to any artist,” he continues, “if you get a chance to play that room, play it. The crowds were absolutely the best part.”

As is typically the case, Garth’s wife, Trisha Yearwood, was a fixture at the shows. With Vegas in the rearview for now, she kicks off her own tour April 30 in Austin, Texas.

Five-time ACM nominees LOCASH wonder why they were left out this year

If you noticed the omission of LOCASH among the ACM duo of the year nominees, you’re not alone. In fact, even Chris Lucas and Preston Brust are questioning it.

“please tell us what else we have to do to be nominated. ?” LOCASH responded after the nods came out. While their reply was directed at the ACM account, they also tagged some fellow country duos in another post.

They wrote on social platform X: “criteria to be nominated. Read it! Duo of the year.” LOCASH goes on to give a “yes” to nominees Dan + Shay and to Tigirlily Gold, who were not nominated, even though they won the ACM’s new duo trophy last year Brooks & DunnBrothers OsborneMuscadine Bloodline and The War and Treaty are the remaining contenders in the category.

Given the fact that LOCASH is currently knocking on the door to #1 with “Hometown Home” – and that the category has long seemed to suffer from a lack of contenders who are finding success at radio – the omission is noticeable.

“Love everyone else in the category, but it doesn't fit this years nomination process. Hmmmm,” LOCASH closes.

The duo was previously nominated in the category three times, in 2017, 2018 and 2021. In 2016 and 2017 they were also up for the new duo award.

Meanwhile, LOCASH’s new album, Bet the Farm, drops April 18.
