$2 billion in grants frozen after Harvard University rejects demands from Trump administration

The federal government has frozen over $2 billion in grants to Harvard University, after the school rejected demands from the Trump administration. The administration’s Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism announced the cuts in a statement that called out “the troubling entitlement mindset that is endemic in our nation’s most prestigious universities and colleges,” stating that $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60 million “in multi-year contract value” would be frozen to Harvard.

The demands from the White House included third-party audits of campus programs and restrictions on international students, as part of a broader initiative to combat antisemitism.  On Monday, Harvard had rejected the administration’s demands, sharing on the university’s X account: “The university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights. Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the federal government.”

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday to call for Harvard to lose its tax-exempt status after their refusal to comply with the demands: “Perhaps Harvard should lose its Tax Exempt Status and be Taxed as a Political Entity if it keeps pushing political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting “Sickness?” Remember, Tax Exempt Status is totally contingent on acting in the PUBLIC INTEREST!”

White House spokesperson Harrison Fields added in a statement that there are no signs of backing down: “President Trump is working to Make Higher Education Great Again by ending unchecked anti-Semitism and ensuring federal taxpayer dollars do not fund Harvard’s support of dangerous racial discrimination or racially motivated violence.”

The administration’s demands also included dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, replacing them with merit-based policies.  Harvard’s legal counsel emphasized that the university is committed to combating all forms of bigotry but cannot comply with directives that violate constitutional protections.

Parker McCollum's next album reminds him of his musical heroes

Parker McCollum‘s so into his new record, it reminds him of the music he loved when he was a teen.

“Fifteen-, 16-year-old Parker, if he was listening to this record while hauling a** to his grandparents’ barn on a Friday afternoon after school, he would have thought of that guy the way that I thought of [Cross CanadianRagweed the first time I ever heard ’17,'” Parker says.

“Or Randy Rogers, the first time I ever heard Rollercoaster or Turnpike [Troubadours], the first time I ever heard Diamonds & Gasoline,” he continues. “Or the first time I ever heard Ryan Bingham's Mescalito and Roadhouse Sun.”

Parker’s quick to point out he’s not bragging on himself, he’s just pleased to have found this level of authenticity.

“Not to say that this record is even remotely close to as good as any of those, but it is the best thing I've ever done,” he says. “This record is honest, this record is raw, this record is 1000% authentic Parker. And it feels really good to be able to get back to writing and recording songs like I always wanted to.”

The self-titled Parker McCollum, his fifth album, is set to arrive June 27. It features his current hit, “What Kinda Man.”

Dierks Bentley shares video for ‘Cold Beer Can’ featuring Steven Wilson Jr

Dierks Bentley has released the second track from his next album, “Cold Beer Can,” a collaboration with co-writer Stephen Wilson Jr.

“Cold Beer Can” was written at a small writer’s camp in Nashville last year, with Bentley and Wilson getting assistance from Luke Dick and Jon Randall for the track. Bentley shared: “I was a really big fan of Stephen’s and asked him to jump in on some writes with me, and we ended up writing two songs that both made the new record. What I love about this song is that the title and idea seem like such familiar territory for country music, but when you actually dig into the lyrics of the song, it’s much more meaningful. I asked him to come in and lay down some acoustic guitar parts once we got in the studio, and he crushed it.”

Adds Wilson Jr: “There are some things that money just can’t buy. People crave an experience. Sometimes bartering is required. A fermented meeting ground perhaps.  A cold beer can be a simple and affordable catalyst in the chemical and emotional reactions of this human life. Humans are looking for something to carry us on or bring us together.”

Bentley will also embark on the 2025 Broken Branches Tour, kicking off in Austin, Texas on May 29th and making stops in over 30 U.S. cities nationwide. Joining Bentley on tour is rising star Zach Top and newcomers, duo The Band Loula.

Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine album has debuted at No. 1 with her deluxe album ‘Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead.’  In addition, the critically acclaimed deluxe album captured the No. 1 spot for Top Album Sales, Top Current Album Sales, and Vinyl Albums.

The original album earned the singer her sixth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and had two songs — “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” — top the Hot 100 chart, making Eternal Sunshine the only album to produce multiple Hot 100 No. 1 hits in 2024.

If 'Nothing Else,' Thomas Rhett could still sing after he broke his ankle

There’s little doubt about it: Thomas Rhett is a trouper who can make the best of a bad sitch.

You can catch up on his current situation in a new Instagram video he titled “How I Broke My Ankle at a Forrest Frank Concert.”

“I can't sing Thomas Rhett's verse, can I?” the Christian singer asks from the stage of the Bridgestone in Nashville Sunday night. From there, the spotlight pans to find TR sitting in the audience.

As TR comes down the stairs, however, he trips, but immediately recovers and joins Frank onstage. Even through the performance of “Nothing Else” – which involves a lot of jumping by both performers – it’s hard to tell anything’s wrong.

It’s when you see TR’s bandaged foot and his wife, Lauren, pushing him in a wheelchair backstage that you realize something’s wrong.

“You know, sometimes you just have to sing at a Forrest Frank concert and break your ankle in the process,” he comments.

TR’s good disposition continues, even though Lauren can’t seem to stop laughing at the situation.

“You have no mercy at all,” TR says to her, as she keeps laughing and apologizes.

The good new is, Thomas Rhett should have plenty of time to heal before his tour kicks off in June.
