White House demands permanent ceasefire in Ukraine after Putin declares unilateral 3-day ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a unilateral three-day pause in hostilities in Ukraine on Monday, a move that was immediately met with skepticism by Ukraine, who reiterated that Putin accept a broader ceasefire proposal backed by the United States (which he has so far refused). The Kremlin stated that “all military operations” would be halted from midnight on May 8 through midnight on May 11, citing “humanitarian reasons” for the decision.

Putin announced the ceasefire in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War II. The Kremlin said the 72-hour ceasefire would run for three days either side of May 9, when Putin will be hosting international leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping for lavish celebrations to commemorate victory over Nazi Germany.  The Kremlin said in a statement:  “All military actions are suspended for this period [from midnight on May 8 through midnight on May 11]. Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example. In the event of violations by the Ukrainian side, Russia’s armed forces will give an adequate and effective response.”

Putin’s new announcement follows the Kremlin’s recent declaration of a 30-hour Easter truce, which Kyiv accepted;  however, Ukraine’s military later accused Russian forces of violating that agreement, reporting over 2,900 attacks across the frontlines during the ceasefire window. Russia has also claimed that Ukraine breached that truce.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at the White House that President Trump has said he wants a permanent end to Russia’s war on Ukraine, and he is “losing patience: with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy: “he wants to see a permanent cease-fire and I understand Vladimir Putin this morning offered a temporary ceasefire. The president has made clear he wants to see a permanent cease-fire first, to stop the killing, stop the bloodshed. While he remains optimistic he can strike a deal, he also is being realistic as well. Both leaders need to come to the table to negotiate their way out of this.”

National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes added on Monday: “President Trump welcomes President Putin’s readiness to pause fighting, but the president has made it very clear that he expects a permanent ceasefire to bring a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”

In response to Putin’s temporary ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine believes there is “no reason to wait” until May 8 for a ceasefire: “Russia has consistently rejected everything and continues to manipulate the world, trying to deceive the United States. Now, yet again, another attempt at manipulation: for some reason everyone is supposed to wait until May 8 before ceasing fire — just to provide Putin with silence for his parade … The ceasefire should not be just for a few days, only to return to killing afterward,” he said. “It must be immediate, full, and unconditional — for at least 30 days to ensure it is secure and guaranteed. This is the foundation that could lead to real diplomacy. All the Russians’ statements about peace without ceasing fire are just plain lies.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire early in March; however, Putin has repeatedly rejected the offer. Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak expressed gratitude to Trump for supporting a complete ceasefire, posting on X that “only a full, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire — not a temporary one like Putin suggests — can truly end the war.”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha echoed that sentiment, responding to Putin’s announcement by saying, “If Russia genuinely wants peace, it should stop hostilities immediately. Why wait until May 8? Ukraine remains committed to a stable, enduring, and comprehensive ceasefire, and that’s what we continue to propose — for a minimum of 30 days.”

The inspiration behind Charles Kelley's second album, 'Songs for a New Moon'

Charles Kelley‘s second solo album, Songs for a New Moon, will drop June 25.

“It’s probably the most present album I’ve ever made,” he told ABC’s Good Morning America. “It’s really an album about kind of letting go and holding on as well… letting go of the past, holding on to what matters.”

The record blends genres from to yacht rock to ’80s pop throughout its 16 songs.

“We never wanted it to sound like I was doing some kind of caricature… I never wanted to be like, ‘Alright, I’ll go and I’m gonna get really silly with this and make fun,'” he said. “I feel like some of the best music to me was made during that time.”

There’s no shortage of personal inspiration, as Charles and wife Cassie are expecting a baby, joining their 9-year-old Ward.

“We’re in such a great healthy spot, probably the best spot we’ve ever been in our marriage and just as a family,” he reflects.

Getting to this point was no easy feat for Charles, who took time away from Lady A to work on his sobriety in 2022.

“I knew it for a long time… ” he said. “I kind of was waiting for something to happen and make me kind of do it. And luckily, I had a little bit what they would almost call a soft landing with it. Nothing absolutely detrimental happened.”

Meanwhile, Lady A is still working on their next move, but some of the pressure of the past is missing.

“We feel like we used to just be in such a hamster wheel of you make a record, you tour, you make another record, you tour,” he said. “And I was like, ‘Man, what if we actually took some time, let people miss us for a little bit?'”

‘. (PERIOD)’ is the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Gag Order’,  and will feature Kesha’s recent singles Joyride and Delusional along with the newly shared T-Pain collaboration, YIPPEE-KI-YAY, a pop-country track produced by Pink Slip and Nova Wav.  Listen to YIPPEE-KI-YAY – HERE.

In addition, Kesha announced plans for a North American headline tour alongside the newly reunited Scissor Sisters (Jake Shears, Babydaddy & Del Marquis) on all dates — marking their first North American tour in over a decade.

Pop disruptor Slayyyter will support from July 1-July 18 with rising UK artist Rose Gray from July 19-21 and July 24-August 10.

Kesha shared of the tour: “The most political thing we can do right now is love. Love ourselves and love each other … I’m going T*ts Out this summer to bring as much safety, fun, acceptance, love, connection, and celebration to this country because we are just as much the fabric of this FREE nation as anyone else. We will not be quiet, and we will fight through joy! I think it’s time to make LOVE, not content. LOVE, not anger. LOVE, not hatred, and love, not war. I’m committed to bringing my newfound freedom to a city near you. A celebration is in order …  Let’s fight chaos with love, so let’s see how much love we can bring to the summer of 2025. And along the way, I’m looking for a sugar daddy, so if you bring a tall, hot, single friend, you get extra animal points. Let’s help each other find some love and connection this summer.”

Scissor Sisters shared: “We are stoked to extend our reunion to the US and Canada this summer alongside Kesha. There has always been a bit of anarchy and chaos to both of our live shows – and we can’t wait to bring that ‘anything can happen’ energy across North America again.”

Tag, you're it: Tennessee celebrates the Opry's 100th with specialty plate

If you’re a country fan, there are some perks about living in Tennessee.

Take, for instance, the new Opry license plate, now being offered in the Volunteer State. It’s part of this year’s celebration as the Grand Ole Opry hits the century mark.

The specialty plate features a shot of the Opry stage, including the iconic barn, mic stand, and the circle of wood taken from the Ryman Auditorium. “Opry Home of Country Music,” it reads at the bottom.

You can pre-order the plate now — which costs $37 — through The Opry Shop. Pre-orders will close in May, or once 1000 of the tags have been sold. Remember there is one catch: You have to be a resident of Tennessee to get the plate.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Opry Trust Fund, which helps members of the country music family in need.

The state of Tennessee also offers an Imagination Library specialty tag, which features artwork similar to Dolly Parton‘s 2014 album, Blue Smoke.
