Brett Young opts for positivity in light of heartbreak on new single “You Didn't”

Brett Young takes a positive approach to a broken heart in his new single, “You Didn’t.”

The simmering, R&B-leaning number finds the singer comforting the woman he loves who sadly didn’t love him back. But rather than making it a revenge anthem, the country singer takes a gentler approach, trying to ease her pain while he deals with his own.

“I feel like it’s the most positive approach to a breakup ever,” Brett explains. “I think the subtext is that it’s very clearly a lie. It’s a guy saying he’s fine and then he understands he fell in love and she didn’t, but he’s lying. He’s still trying to take care of her in the process of getting his heart broken.”

The California native is known for releasing tear-jerking ballads, like the previous heartbreakers “Mercy” and “Like I Loved You,” which both topped the charts. Brett admits he’s not sure why country music fans gravitate to sad songs, but he believes “You Didn’t” is the perfect introduction to his next album.

“[I] think it was such a fresh approach, and while realizing that country music fans really like to be sad for whatever reason, it felt like a good offering from this collection,” he says.

Brett’s wife Taylor stars in the video for “You Didn’t.”

Carrie Underwood says her new album will inspire fans to “sing into your hairbrush”

Carrie Underwood is blending drama and fun on her upcoming album.

The hit singer dropped her new single, “Ghost Story,” last week, a dramatic tale of a woman who promises to haunt the memory of her ex. “It’s enough of hopefully what people like about me. There’s some drama, it’s a cinematic song. It’s a great story song. It’s this little revenge song,” she describes the number to ET Canada.

“Ghost Story” is the first taste of Carrie’s anticipated seventh studio album following 2018’s Cry Pretty, her 2020 holiday album, My Gift, and the companion gospel project, My Savior, released in 2021. While “Ghost Story” offers a moody vibe, the singer hints that the album will also include lighter notes.

“It’s a very sing into your hairbrush in your house, in your room, kind of album,” she shares.

Days after its release, “Ghost Story” is climbing through the top 30 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Cody Johnson says releasing the inspiring “Til You Can't” as a single was an “easy choice”

For Cody Johnson, his new #1 single, “Til You Can’t,” isn’t merely a song, it’s an anthem for living life to the fullest.

Cody admits that when he first heard the demo, the song’s melancholy nature struck a chord with him, noting that he “loved the lyrics” and noticed that the song “wasn’t as energetic” as the final product.

“It was a little bit more docile, a little more calm and it almost had a sad feel to it. It does have those lyrics about ‘take the phone call from your momma’ until you can’t,” he describes of the song in its original form, adding that when it was time to produce the track, he knew what direction it needed to go in.  “This needs to be a message of ‘you got a chance, take the chance, go out and chase your dreams until you can’t,'” he adds.

The Texas native says that selecting the song as a single was a no-brainer, because he hoped listeners would gravitate toward its encouraging message.

“My thought was ‘if this is a hit on country radio, if the music video does well, if it goes viral, what a great message to have your name tagged to.’ I think that was the decision-maker for me. It was an easy choice,” Cody explains. “We try to not to think about it every day, but we all have an expiration date, and from now until that expiration date, it’s about pushing. Just chase your dreams, take your chances, tell the people you love you love them, and it turned into this happy, anthematic experience.”

“Til You Can’t” is Cody’s first #1 hit.

Dolly Parton to star in 'Run, Rose, Run' film co-produced by Reese Witherspoon

Dolly Parton‘s new book is getting the feature treatment — with a little help from Reese Witherspoon

Two weeks after the release of Run, Rose, Run, which Dolly co-wrote with author James Patterson, the novel is now being adapted into a feature film co-produced by Dolly, Reese, James and Hello Sunshine, a media company founded by the Academy Award-winning actress.

Dolly is set to star in the film, which follows an aspiring country singer who moves to Nashville with a collection of songs inspired by a dark secret from her past. The book was released on March 7 and became a New York Times bestseller, debuting at #1. It was accompanied by an album of the same name featuring original songs by Dolly.

“I’m proud, excited and honored to be working with my good friend Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine on the movie of Run, Rose, Run from the novel I co-wrote with James Patterson. James and I love Reese and look forward to working with her and her wonderful team,” Dolly says in a statement.

“Growing up in Nashville, I've loved Dolly since the moment I heard her magical voice and saw her luminous personality shine onstage. Beyond her magnetic presence as an artist and performer, she is one of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of our time,” praises Reese, calling the fellow Tennessee native an “icon.”

“My admiration for her grew to even greater heights when reading Run, Rose, Run, a gripping and heartbreaking book I couldn’t put down,” Reese continues. “I couldn't feel more honored to be working alongside her and James to bring this remarkable story to the screen.”
