Trump Organization, CFO Allen Weisselberg plead not guilty to tax fraud charges in Manhattan DA investigation

The Trump Organization’s chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, and lawyers for the company appeared in front of a Manhattan judge Thursday, pleading not guilty to charges in what prosecutors called a sweeping tax fraud scheme. The charges were unsealed after former President Donald Trump’s longtime aide and the company were indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney and Attorney General Letitia James. Weisselberg entered the courtroom in handcuffs and entered the not guilty plea on charges related to alleged failure to pay taxes on corporate benefits and perks. Moments before Weisselberg pleaded not guilty to grand larceny, lawyers on behalf of the Trump Organization pleaded not guilty to charges of scheme to defraud.

The 15-count indictment alleges Weisselberg and the Trump Organization cheated New York State and New York City out of taxes by conspiring to pay senior executives off the books from 2005 through this year. Prosecutors allege Weisselberg evaded taxes on $1.7 million in income that included apartment rent, car payments and school tuition. Weisselberg’s estranged, former daughter-in-law turned over several boxes of documents from her divorce to prosecutors. She claimed they show financial transactions from Weisselberg to her family for rent, cars and private school tuition.

Weisselberg, an employee of 48 years, operated as CFO of the Trump Organization as well as the Trump family’s personal bookkeeper. He also appeared on Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice.” Trump himself was not charged, but he isn’t in the clear. The grand jury will be sitting in November, so it’s possible he could still see indictments. The former president did say his company’s actions were “standard practice” and “in no way a crime.”

Jimmie Allen + Brad Paisley can't wait to play their duet single on tour together this summer

When Jimmie Allen heads out as an opening act for Brad Paisley's headlining tour this summer, it'll be a big deal for both artists. Not only is Brad a musical idol to Jimmie, but their duet, “Freedom Was a Highway,” is now rising at country radio.

This will be the first time Brad's ever toured with an artist with whom he shared a current single, as the country veteran points out during a recent interview the two singers did together for Apple Music Country.

“I've never had a tour with the person I had a duet out with,” Brad reveals. “When Carrie [Underwood] and I had Remind Me,' she wasn't on tour with me anymore. She was way bigger than that.”

The singer goes on to say that there have been other near misses where he almost shared the stage with a current duet partner, but the timing's never quite worked out before.

“I've had songs with Dierks [Bentley], I've had songs with Alan Jackson, but I've never had them out on the road while I had that. And in this case, while [the song is] rising like this…we've got great entrances planned for you, you know what I mean?” Brad tells Jimmie.

“We're gonna shoot him out of a cannon for the song,” he jokes.

Before they hit the road together, Jimmie and Brad will take the stage for Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series on July 5. They're part of a lineup of July 4th festivities that also includes a performance from Lady A.

Report: Gwen & Blake's wedding countdown is officially on

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton may decide to celebrate America’s Independence by tying the knot.

TMZ reports that Gwen and Blake applied for a marriage license in Oklahoma on Tuesday, and according to local law, you have 10 days from the date of filing to get married.

Sources tell TMZ that Gwen and Blake are going to say “I do” Saturday at Blake’s ranch in Oklahoma, and there’s an entire weekend’s worth of activities and fun planned, depending on the weather. The ceremony will be held in an outdoor chapel on the ranch if it doesn’t rain, the sources claim.

The sources add that Gwen, Blake and Gwen’s children are already in Oklahoma, but the couple is sending a private plane to L.A. Thursday to pick up Gwen’s parents and the rest of her family and bring them back to the ranch.

Only close friends and family are expected to attend the nuptials.

Gwen and Blake got engaged last October after dating for five years.  It’ll be her second marriage, and his third.

“Happy Birthday America”: Toby Keith marks the July 4th holiday with a world-weary new song

Just in time for July 4th, Toby Keith has shared his patriotic — if a little jaded — “Happy Birthday America.” The song declares the singer's love for his country, even if he might disagree with both mainstream political parties.

“Every time I go to town and vote, I just come home with the blues/ The lesser of two evil's all we ever get to choose,” Toby sings, along with the refrain of “Happy birthday America, whatever's left of you” in the chorus.

It's one of several new songs Toby has shared lately. His newest single, “Old School,” was written by Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd alongside songwriter Brett Tyler.

Toby also features on Brantley Gilbert's irreverent new release “The Worst Country Song of All Time.” Hardy, who's a co-writer on the track, also lends his vocals to that song.

“We're back”: Carly Pearce commemorates her first post-pandemic show

Carly Pearce is on the road again, after a more than year-long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, the singer celebrated her return to the stage by sharing a short video montage of memorable moments from her first show back, which took place in Minnesota. Set to her current single, “Next Girl,” the clip shows snippets of Carly performing and taking selfies with fans, as fireworks go off in the background.

Carly has plenty of reason to celebrate. Not only is she back to being onstage in front of her fans, but she's also doing so as the newest member-to-be of the Grand Ole Opry. Dolly Parton surprised her earlier this month with an invite to join the Opry, fulfilling a life-long dream for the “I Hope You're Happy Now” star.

Fans will have plenty of chances to see Carly on the road for the remainder of 2021, as she's scheduled to join Lady A on their What a Song Can Do Tour, beginning at the end of July.

Carly’s also at work on new music. Shortly after sharing her newest collection, 29, Carly began dropping hints that that musical chapter of her life isn’t over yet, and she’s planning to expand on the track list.
