Keith Urban drops “Brown Eyes Baby” as his The Speed of Now Tour rages on

Keith Urban is back with new music this week. On Friday, he dropped his newest song, “Brown Eyes Baby,” a mid-tempo burner that follows a girl who's still hurting from a breakup, but just might be able to patch up her heartbreak with a little help from someone new.

“I can put the sun right back in your sunshine / Bring a little love into your late night / Ain't gotta be nothin' but one more drink and maybe / I can take the blue out of your brown eyes, baby,” Keith sings in the song's chorus.

The song's subject matter has some common DNA with one of Keith's previous hits, “Blue Ain't Your Color,” but its melody features a smooth, sway-a-long groove that's a perfect fit for a live show. Keith's already been trying it out at some of the stops on his The Speed of Now Tour, and now that it's officially out, the singer says he can't wait to keep performing it live.

“We'll be bringing this one to life every single night with all of YOU out on tour!” the singer said on social media when he announced his song's release.

“Brown Eyes Baby” is Keith's new single. It doesn't appear on the track list of his latest album, The Speed of Now Part I, meaning that a new batch of music just might be on the way.

WNBA star Brittney Griner pleads guilty to drug charges in Russia

On Thursday, WNBA star Brittney Griner pleaded guilty in Russia to drug possession and smuggling charges, telling a Moscow court she brought marijuana into the country by accident. Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport in February after Russian officials claimed she had cannabis oil in her luggage.

Griner said in court: “I would like to plead guilty on the charges against me, but I had no intention on breaking any Russian law. I was in a rush packing and the cartridges accidentally ended up in my bags.” Griner’s plea could bring the verdict in her case closer, which would then allow her defense team and U.S. officials to try and secure her release.

Griner’s Russian legal team said the guilty plea was “her decision informed by discussion with her legal defense team. Brittney sets an example of being brave. She decided to take full responsibility for her actions as she knows that she is a role model for many people. Considering the nature of her case, the insignificant amount of the substance and BG’s personality and history of positive contributions to global and Russian sport, the defense hopes that the plea will be considered by the court as a mitigating factor and there will be no severe sentence.”

Griner is expected to give her testimony at a later date; the session adjourned until July 14. If convicted on drug smuggling charges, Griner could face 10 years in a Russian prison.

Derek Chauvin sentenced to 21 years on federal charges for violating George Floyd’s civil rights

Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 21 years in prison Thursday, nearly seven months after he pleaded guilty to federal charges that he violated George Floyd’s civil rights when he knelt on Floyd’s neck for 9½ minutes as he was detaining him in May 2020.

Federal prosecutors had asked U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson to sentence Chauvin to 25 years, saying Chauvin abused his authority as a police officer and acted callously. The defense had asked for 20 years, saying Chauvin was remorseful for what he did and that he has accepted responsibility. Judge Magnuson sentenced Chauvin to 21 years in prison, with credit for the time he has already served. Chauvin is already serving a 22½-year sentence after he was found guilty of second- and third-degree murder, as well as second-degree manslaughter, in April 2021 in a state case for the death of Floyd. His federal sentence will be served concurrently.

Luke Combs reveals the top piece of parenting advice he's received — and why he plans not to take it

Luke Combs and his wife Nicole are proud new parents to a baby boy, Tex Lawrence, who joined the family on Father's Day, June 19. Like any other parents to a newborn, they're figuring it out as they go, with help from lots of advice from their friends, family and fellow country artists. But there's one piece of advice Luke's received that he says he's taking with a grain of salt.

“The number-one thing I've heard is — gosh, what do they call it, a night nurse? That's a thing I've heard about,” he recalls. “That's a thing that I've heard about, which I was just completely unaware of that existing.”

According to WhatToExpect.com, a night nurse is a newborn care expert who helps with in-home care during the first few weeks of a baby's life, specifically at night, so that exhausted new parents can get some much-needed rest. But Luke says he and Nicole haven't hired one — at least, not yet.

“You know, I think we're gonna give it a run for a while and just kind of do it on our own,” Luke explains.

“This child didn't have a choice to be born. You know, it was our choice to bring him into the world,” the singer reasons. “So I think it would be super selfish of me to go, Oh, now I don't have time to do this thing.' And I think trying to do that on our own is something that we're looking forward to.”

Still, Luke admits that the tough realities of caring for a newborn might change his mind. “Maybe a month of no sleep will change my outlook on that. Who knows,” he admits.

Kelsea Ballerini takes a high dive in her “Heartfirst” music video

Kelsea Ballerini returns today with the whimsical, pastel-themed music video for her single, “Heartfirst.”

The clip kicks off with a meet-cute, as Kelsea bumps into a handsome stranger while carrying bags of groceries. The two lock eyes, and the song's first bars kick off as shots show Kelsea careening through the clouds on a roller coaster and singing along to the bubble melody of “Heartfirst.”

The surreal, fun-loving theme continues through the second verse, as Kelsea plays the part of a craps dealer to a group of bachelorettes. In another scene, she sits strumming an acoustic guitar in the desert, a tiger sitting beside her.

At the culmination of the video, Kelsea climbs up a ladder through the clouds until she makes it to the top of a high dive, taking a breath before she plummets off the edge and free-falls through the sky.

“Heartfirst” is the first single off of a forthcoming new album from Kelsea, which has not yet been officially announced.
