Scotty McCreery's 'Same Truck' album gets deluxe makeover with six new songs

Scotty McCreery is adding some new songs — and a new vinyl version — to his September 2021 album, Same Truck. The deluxe version of the project will arrive on vinyl, digital and CD this November.

Ahead of the release, Scotty dropped “Nothin' Right,” which is one of six new tracks featured on the album. The new song — which Scotty co-wrote — is a twangy, relaxation anthem that the singer says gets a great response when he plays it in his live shows.

“We had more songs I loved ready for the original release of Same Truck than we could put on that album, so I am pumped that Triple Tigers asked me to do a deluxe edition where I could add six mor songs,” the singer explains.

“We've also had a lot of requests for a vinyl version of Same Truck over the last year,” he adds, “so I'm excited we can offer that option as well.”

The deluxe version of Same Truck comes out November 18, but it's available to pre-order and pre-save now.

President Biden to meet family members of Russian detainees Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that President Joe Biden will meet with family members of WNBA star Brittney Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan on Friday, as the White House continues to push for their release from detention in Russia.  Jean-Pierre said that Biden will “discuss his continuing commitment to bringing their family members home safely. As we have said before, we believe that Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittany and Paul under intolerable circumstances.” The meetings with Griner’s wife, Cherelle, and Whelan’s sister, Elizabeth, will take place separately. They will be the first in-person meeting between Biden and the family members, after speaking to them by phone in July.

The White House has been in talks with Russian officials over the release of the two Americans, and Biden said last month that he was hopeful a deal could be made to release Griner. But since then, there have been few signs of progress from the administration. In August, after Griner’s sentencing, Russia said it was ready to discuss the possibility of a swap. The Russians are demanding that a Russian spy in U.S. custody be turned over in exchange for Whelan or Griner. The U.S. and Germany have categorically rejected suggestions in Russian state media that Vadim Krasikov, a Russian convicted of a political assassination in Berlin, would be be turned over by German authorities as part of a deal.

Griner was sentenced to nine years in jail by a Moscow court last month, after being arrested at a Moscow airport on Feb. 17 when Russian authorities found cannabis-infused vape cartridges in her luggage. Whelan has been detained since 2018 and is serving a 16-year sentence. The U.S. government has said both have been wrongfully detained.

President Biden announces tentative deal to avert national rail strike

After days of negotiations, President Biden announced Thursday that a deal was reached to avert a national rail strike.  In a statement, Mr. Biden said the entative agreement between the railroads and rail workers’ unions was “an important win for our economy and the American people… and a win for tens of thousands of rail workers who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to ensure that America’s families and communities got deliveries of what have kept us going during these difficult years.”

Mr. Biden said that thanks to the agreement, U.S. rail workers would “get better pay, improved working conditions, and peace of mind around their health care costs: all hard-earned.”  Biden added that the deal was “also a victory for railway companies who will be able to retain and recruit more workers for an industry that will continue to be part of the backbone of the American economy for decades to come.”

The president met with negotiators in the Oval Office later Thursday before delivering formal remarks on the agreement. During his speech at the White House Rose Garden, Biden said “this agreement is a big win for America and for both, in my view, validation of what I’ve always believed: Union and management can work together.  To the American people, this agreement can avert the significant damage that any shutdown would have brought. Our nation’s rail system is the backbone of our supply chain, everything you rely on.”

According to the agreement, rail workers will get an immediate 14% raise, with a total raise of 24% over the course of the five-year deal, the unions said. They will also get annual bonuses of $5,000 and keep their health care copays and deductibles unchanged. All workers will get an extra paid day off and have the ability to take time off for medical reasons, one of the key demands the unions made over the course of negotiations. The deal will now go to the unions for a vote to finalize the agreement.

Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood + more stars detail Vince Gill's “monumental” impact on them

Artists from all generations and corners of the country genre flock to the stage to tribute Vince Gill in CMT Giants: Vince Gill, a concert event honoring the living legend of country music.

Ahead of the show — which was taped Monday in Nashville — stars like Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton and Luke Combs filed in to perform Vince’s songs. Each singer had a personal connection to him and his discography, and most began listening to him when they were young children.

“I remember hearing Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away' I think probably at four or five. My sister and I would choreograph dances to that song and I Still Believe in You,'” recounts Maren, adding that Vince's voice had a “magical resonance” with her from the start.

Luke says that he also had a formative early childhood experience with “Don't Let Our Love.”

“That song is just seared into my brain — almost on a primal level,” the “Doin' This” star explains, adding that Vince’s music was the soundtrack to his first experiences of loving music. “Vince was a monumental part of my entire musical existence, no doubt.”

For his tribute, Chris selected “Whenever You Come Around,” a song that's special to him because he's been covering it since his early days. “I've always loved it. Just one of my favorites,” he says. “…I used to sing it in bars, when nobody was listening.”

Meanwhile, Carrie praised Vince's one-of-a-kind voice. “It's just so beautiful, right? It's pretty rare to have a male with such a gorgeous voice,” she offers. “He's got some of the most beautiful ballads in country music ever.”

CMT Giants: Vince Gill airs Friday at 9 p.m. ET on CMT.

Maddie & Tae explain how they plan to “level up” in second half of Through the Madness album

Maddie & Tae's Through the Madness will finally be complete by the end of this month, as the second half of the project arrives — following the late-January release of Vol. 1 — on September 23.

In between release dates, the duo have lived a little more “madness,” as bandmate Taylor Kerr gave birth to baby girl Leighton early this year, about three months before her due date. Despite arriving early and spending some time in the NICU, Leighton is thriving — so much so that she's out on tour with Maddie & Tae this fall.

Now, as they prepare to release Vol. 2 of their project, Taylor and her duo partner Maddie Font are looking forward to going deep.

“We divided up those songs and volume one is like an intro to it. And volume two, we take a deeper dive,” Maddie tells CMT. “We're always diving deep, and always really getting into the nitty-gritty of life and emotions.”

They're proud of the results, she goes on to say. “I feel like volume two is definitely a level up, lyrically. Not that volume one isn't still great. We still love her.”

Through the Madness Vol. 2 arrives on September 23. In the meantime, Maddie & Tae are out on the 2022 CMT Next Women of Country Tour Presents: All Song No Static Tour through the end of the month.
