Luke Combs will be ESPN's College GameDay guest picker: “I wouldn't miss it for the world”

In between a hectic touring schedule, Luke Combs is making a stop in his home state to be the guest picker for ESPN's College GameDay this weekend.

The star announced the news on social media, and he made it pretty clear what one of his picks is going to be: his alma mater, Appalachian State.

“Don't even ask me who I'm picking. You know who I'm picking, baby,” Luke said in his video announcement, pointing to the App State ball cap on his head.

Luke also said that making sure he could be there for College GameDay was tough to orchestrate, as he's currently out on his Middle of Somewhere Tour.

“You know your boy has a show in Green Bay Friday night. Unfortunately he has a show on Saturday night, as well,” Luke said. “But, the logistics were very, very difficult, but we got it put together, and I wouldn't miss it for the world.”

Tune in to ESPN on Saturday around 11:30 a.m. ET to watch Luke make his picks.

Little Big Town explains the years-long process that led them to finally cut “Rich Man” for 'Mr. Sun'

Little Big Town's 10th studio album, Mr. Sun, arrives on Friday, and the track contains a song that's more than a decade old and that the band has actually tried to record at least once before.

That's “Rich Man,” a solo write by bandmate Jimi Westbrook that represents the first time LBT has ever recorded a song written by a solo member of the band.

“I'd been hearing it in the dressing room for years,” the group's Phillip Sweet tells Billboard. They'd even tried to cut it for a project in 2010, but for some reason, the song never quite clicked — until the Mr. Sun album cycle came along.

“I feel like last year I had finally gotten it to where I wanted it to be,” says Jimi, who never stopped polishing the song despite the fact that he wasn't sure it would ever see the light of day on an album track list.

“I still didn't think anybody would hear it. It was only for myself,” the singer continues. “It connects so deeply to my heart and my growing up with my family and my dad, who passed away in 2002.”

Jimi never expected the song would fit so well on Mr. Sun. “That it made its way onto this record, it's kind of wild,” he added.

President Biden announces funding to build EV charging stations in 35 states during appearance at North American International Auto Show in Detroit

During an appearance at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Wednesday, President Biden announced that the White House is expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure, by announcing funding for 35 states to build their own charging stations. The White House said in a statement: “The future of transportation is electric. The president’s economic plan has generated an American electric vehicle boom that is creating new economic opportunity and tens of thousands of good-paying and union jobs across the country.”

Biden detailed his administration’s efforts to promote electric vehicle manufacturing and reduce the need for fossil fuels: “Y’all are going to be part of a network of 500,000 charging stations … throughout the country installed by the [International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers].” Biden detailed plans for approval of about $900 million in federal funding to build the first EV chargers across the 35 states. The money will come from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that was passed last year. which provides $7.5 billion to build the national network of 500,000 EV charging stations and another $17 billion for EV battery production and clean transit and school buses.

Biden said his plan will make electric vehicles accessible for everyone, and pledged that charging stations would be available on major roadways such as I-10 and I-75.  Companies including Toyota, Honda, Ford, General Motors and Panasonic have announced tens of billions of dollars in investments in electric vehicles.

Biden’s speech at the Detroit Auto Show is part of the White House’s agenda to accelerate EV production and wean off fossil fuels, for the benefit of the environment and to become less reliant on oil imports.

Mourners line the streets to pay respects as Queen Elizabeth II is moved to Westminster Hall to lie in state

A somber procession through central London was held on Wednesday in which the coffin carrying Queen Elizabeth II was moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where the late monarch will lie in state for four days until her funeral is held on Monday. The coffin was topped with the Imperial State Crown — encrusted with almost 3,000 diamonds — and a bouquet of flowers and plants, including pine from the Balmoral Estate, where Elizabeth died on Sept. 8 at the age of 96.

Massive crowds gathered early Wednesday morning to view the procession, and a line had begun to form of people waiting to file past the queen’s coffin. The most senior members of the Royal Family taking part in the 40-minute walk from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, including the new monarch King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew. William, Prince of Wales and Harry, Duke of Sussex, also walked in a row behind the queen’s children.

The procession included the tolling of the bells of Big Ben, and a gun salute at Hyde Park nearby. After the coffin reached Westminster Hall, a short service began – conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury – in which the royal family, including the Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were in attendance.

Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin rests on a raised platform that will be guarded around the clock for the full four-day lying in state period. Four officers from the Household Cavalry -– two from the Life Guards and two from the Blues Royals -– began the vigil, taking their places at each corner and bowing their heads.

Walker Hayes says “Y'all Life” tells it like it is about life in the South

Growing up in Alabama, Walker Hayes has plenty of first-hand experience when it comes to life in the South, and he says his new song, “Y'all Life,” perfectly sums it all up.

“Where I grew up — the song just says it like it is,” the singer tells ABC Audio. “From Alabama, it's all football and Jesus. That's it, bro. And that's all that matters down there.”

Walker describes his new single as a “two-and-a-half-minute snapshot of where I grew up,” going on to offer more images from the song that speak to what life is like growing up in a place like his Alabama hometown.

“I love the images this song has — the furniture in it, the ice cream truck,” he rattles off. “It is a football game, and you know, we've got the marching band feel in there.

The song also tips its hat to a legendary 2000 anthem for rapper Nelly — “Country Grammar” — in one of its lyrics, sampling the iconic first line of that song's chorus. “I wanted to use that [line] — Down, down baby' — but I was like, You know, let's just go there and we'll sort out the co-write stuff later,'” he explains.

Nelly's influence on the song isn't the only instance of a potential future “Y'all Life” collaboration, Walker hints. “I would imagine we're going to have some pretty sick collabs with this song throughout its life,” he says.
