Trump informed by special counsel he is a target in Jan. 6 probe

Former President Donald Trump on on Tuesday that he was informed by special counsel Jack Smith that he is a target in the Jan. 6 criminal investigation. Smith already has criminally charged Trump with about three dozen counts related to retaining classified documents when he left the White House. Letters sent by the Department of Justice provide its recipients the chance to testify before a grand jury after the DOJ determines there is substantial evidence linking them to a crime.

In a post on his Truth Social site, Trump also suggested he may soon face indictment for the Jan. 6 probe, which is focused on Trump’s efforts to overturn his loss in the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.  He said: “Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden’s DOJ, sent a letter (again, it was Sunday night!) stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and Indictment.”  He added that he was given what he called the “horrifying news” on Sunday evening by his lawyers.

Trump is the leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination; and his lawyers have asked that any trial in that case take place after the 2024 election. Smith’s prosecutors oppose that bid.  Additionally, Trump is separately under criminal investigation by a Georgia state prosecutor for his attempt to get election officials there to reverse his loss to Biden in Georgia.

3-year-old driving golf cart in Florida hits and kills 7-year-old

Police in Florida said that a 3-year-old driving a golf cart stuck and killed a 7-year-old standing in the front yard of a home in Fort Myers.

According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 3-year-old was approaching a right curve near a home on private property located on Orange River Boulevard, when the front of the cart collided with the 7-year-old who was standing in the front yard. The older child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead; the 3-year-old wasn’t hurt. FHP Lt. Greg Bueno confirmed that the two were brothers.

Earlier this year, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill, which goes into effect Oct. 1, that requires golf cart drivers be at least 15 years old with a learner’s permit or 16 with a driver’s license. Anyone who is 18 or older must have a valid government-issued ID. Previously, Florida law allowed a 14-year-old to drive a golf cart.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 6,500 children are hurt by golf carts every year across the country. Just more than half of those injured are children under 12.

Performing on the CMA Fest main stage has been a dream come true for Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis recently experienced a “wild,” full-circle moment. After years of hard work, he finally got to perform at Nissan Stadium for this year’s CMA Fest.

“This is my first time ever playing a stadium,” Jordan tells the press prior to his performance. “During soundcheck, I was thinking about how I used to drive past the stadium on the way to work when I was bartending. And, now I get to play in it, so that’s pretty special.”

Arriving at the CMA Fest main stage has been a long time coming for the “Next Thing You Know” hitmaker, as he recalls.

“CMA Fest has been just such a big part of my life for the last seven years since I started touring. And, I feel like we’ve kind of grown from smaller stages to the Riverfront to now,” Jordan reflects. “We made the jump over the river, and we’re playing the stadium tonight. So it’s going to be a really special set.”

Jordan will perform his #1 hit “Buy Dirt” on CMA Fest Wednesday, July 19, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Miranda Lambert concertgoer speaks out after being ‘scolded’ by singer for taking selfie

The fan who was scolded by Miranda Lambert for taking a selfie with her friends at Lambert’s Las Vegas concert over the weekend has spoken out about the incident that went viral.  Adela Calin, the concertgoer, told NBC News: “It felt like I was back at school with the teacher scolding me for doing something wrong and telling me to sit down back in my place … I feel like she was determined to make us look like we were young, immature and vain. But we were just grown women in our 30s to 60s trying to take a picture.”

The 43-year-old Calin, a social media influencer, shared that her group couldn’t get one good picture before the show started, so she asked someone to take their photo toward the end of the concert, explaining: “We were so excited because I think we had the best seats in the house in the whole theater.”  Calin added that she was appalled by Lambert’s reaction, and said the selfie took “30 seconds at most.”

Lambert, 39, has since come under criticism after stopping her performance of “Tin Man” to scold the women taking a group photo at her concert Saturday night.  In a now-viral TikTok video, Lambert is heard saying: “I’m gonna stop right here for a sec. These girls are worried about a selfie and not listening to the song, and it’s pissing me off a little bit … We’re here to hear some country music tonight. I’m singing some country damn music.” She then proceeding to start the song over again.

Calin posted the photos in question to her Instagram, which shows the six women smiling for the camera as Lambert performed in the background. She wrote in the caption: “these are the 2 pictures we were talking when Miranda Lambert stopped her concert and told us to sit down and not take selfies 😱.”

A representative for Lambert declined to comment, saying that the performer had “no statement to add.”

Jason Aldean says “Try That In A Small Town” accusations are “not only meritless, but dangerous”

Jason Aldean says online accusations his “Try That In A Small Town” video is “pro-lynching” are “not only meritless, but dangerous.”

The video shows the Georgia native performing the song in front of a courthouse with an American flag at the entrance, intercut with news footage of a burning flag, protesters clashing with police and a convenience store robbery.

CMT has pulled the video after running it for three days, according to Billboard

“There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it,” Jason responds, “and there isn't a single video clip that isn't real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.”
