Dan + Shay announce new music, reveal they almost broke up

New music’s on the horizon for award-winning country duo Dan + Shay.

The pair recently announced that new music’s arriving on Friday, July 14, though it wasn’t confirmed if it’s a new song, EP or album.

Coupled with the announcement is a video of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney candidly conversing with each other about their journeys as individuals and as a duo.

“I was in, like, the lowest low of my entire life. Came off the road and I was like, ‘Man, I f****** hate music. I’m ready to quit,” Dan recalls of his life in December 2021, when they had concluded their The (Arena) Tour.

“I could feel the separation and I think there was little things between you and I that we never talked about and it was affecting everything,” Shay tells Dan. “Not just our band. Like, my marriage, everything. I was in a really dark place.”

The conversation continues as the “Tequila” hitmakers talk about their burnout, success, priorities, almost quitting and eventually “making music together” again.

Watch Dan + Shay’s “The Drive” video on YouTube and presave their upcoming music now.

Mass shooting in downtown Cleveland leaves 9 injured

A mass shooting in downtown Cleveland, Ohio early on Sunday left nine people injured. According to reports, police responded after receiving calls of shots being fired at West Sixth Street and Johnson Court at about 2:30 a.m., after the suspect fired into a group of people before fleeing the scene. Victims were hospitalized at MetroHealth Medical Center, with at least one person listed in critical condition.

Ohio Congresswoman Shontel Brown said in a statement: “Gun violence is devastating Northeast Ohio and Clevelanders deserve to be safe. This epidemic is tearing at the fabric of our communities, and it will not end without significant legislative action.”

Police Chief Wayne Drummond said during a press briefing that the outcomes for the victims would have likely been worse if not for the quick response from police, who provided aid until paramedics arrived, and added that police are interviewing the victims and reviewing video of the incident. Mayor Justin Bibb added: “It truly shows the massive gun problem we have, not just in Cleveland, not just in Ohio, but across this nation. Every weekend we have a large police presence right here in the Warehouse District. Our first responders did a fantastic job to provide aid to all of the victims last night.”

Police are interviewing the victims and reviewing video of the incident. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Cleveland Police Department at 216-623-5318 or leave an anonymous tip with Crimestoppers at 216-25-CRIME. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.

Old Dominion on the success of “Memory Lane” + trusting their gut

Old Dominion‘s “Memory Lane” is fast approaching the summit of the country charts.

Releasing it as a single was a unanimous decision for the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year, recalls the band’s Trevor Rosen

“Man, I think that rose to the top of our minds just because it was all our favorites. You know, you sit there and try to scientifically determine what you think is the best idea, [but] ultimately [it] just boils down to the song that we want to turn on when we get in the car and listen to,” Trevor tells ABC Audio.

So what made “Memory Lane” single material?

“I think it had a fresh sound and we just loved it, so we put it out,” Trevor says. “That’s how we started just in the beginning, by trusting what we liked the most and hoping that other people would follow suit. And it definitely has been happening on this one.”

“Memory Lane” is the title track of Old Dominion’s eight-song EP, which arrived in June.

The group is slated to kick off the fall leg of their headlining No Bad Vibes Tour in September. For tickets, visit tour.weareolddominion.com.

Taylor Swift just dropped ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’, featuring collaborations with Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams, and Fall Out Boy on two of Swift’s ‘From the Vault’ tracks.  The ‘From the Vault’ series is made up of songs that were written at the same time that the original 2010 Speak Now album was being recorded, but didn’t make the cut.
